- Presenter 1: Gordon Klein, M.D., University of Texas Medical Branch, will present his team’s research that identified a factor in bone matrix that is liberated during resorption and that has a catabolic effect on skeletal muscle in pediatric burn injury, preserved skeletal muscle by treating with bisphosphonates, and identified other conditions in which trabecular bone and skeletal muscle are lost in tandem with perhaps a similar or identical mechanism in play.
- Presenter 2: Meenal Mehrotra, MBBS, Ph.D., Medical University of South Carolina, will present on the topic of the Role of T Regulatory Cells in Osteogenesis Imperfecta. Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI), a common hereditary bone disease, is characterized by repeated fractures and bone deformity.
