The ASBMR Fund for Research and Education, in collaboration with the Development Committee, Ambassador Subcommittee and the Diversity Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) Committee, is proud to announce a new International Travel Grant program to enable two recipients from low or middle-income countries to attend the ASBMR 2024 Annual Meeting, September 27-30 in Toronto, ON, Canada. The Fund for Research and Education will award two grants of up to $5,000 USD each in 2024. Travel support will include airfare, ground transportation, lodging (4 nights), meals, incidentals, visa application fees and poster printing. The recipients' abstract submission fees and Annual Meeting registration fees will also be waived.
Recipient Eligibility:
- Must work, reside, or study full-time in a country that is classified as lower income (LIC), lower-middle income (LMIC), or upper-middle income (UMIC) on the World Bank country classifications by income level
- Must hold an MD, PhD, or equivalent degree in a field related to bone mineral and musculoskeletal science, OR be currently enrolled in doctoral level training
- Must plan to attend and submit an abstract for the ASBMR Annual Meeting (the abstract requirement is waived in 2024, but an abstract is highly encouraged and may be beneficial for securing your entry visa into Canada)
- May not be previous recipients of this award
- May not receive other ASBMR travel awards or grants for the same meeting
Application
Applicants must provide the following:
- Completed online application including

- a short statement of how this grant might impact their scientific career
- One letter of interest
- One letter of support (optional but recommended)
- CV or biosketch
- Verification of support from the applicant's institution to allocate the requisite time to participate with ASBMR during and after the conference
Your Letter of Interest must include the following:
- Discuss your career path, goals, and research interest(s)
- Describe the financial limitations and other barriers that you face as a bone/mineral/musculoskeletal researcher in a low or middle income country
- How do you believe receiving this grant would positively impact your scientific career?
- How do you believe receiving this award might empower you to make a difference in the scientific careers of colleagues in your home country?
The deadline to apply was Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Applicants will be notified by the end of May, 2024.
