The Women in Bone and Mineral Research Committee is pleased to announce the 2022 recipient of the ASBMR Phoebe Leboy Professional Development Award, Malakeh Malekzadeh.
Malekzadeh is a permanent resident of Iran and is currently completing a Postdoctoral Fellowship at College of Kinesiology, University of Saskatchewan, Canada. Her postdoctoral fellowship focuses on advanced bone imaging modalities (e.g., HR-pQCT and pQCT). Her passion for science and art, especially medical sciences, and her desire to advance general health through medical technologies were prominent reasons for pursuing medical imaging. Perfoming research in the field of Bone was her dream as she has been living among women in Iran who were suffering from Osteoporosis. She found herself raising awareness that encouraged individuals to participate in screening programs. She wishes to advance her career as a researcher and intends to establish her own research group in medical imaging in collaboration with clinical specialists.
The Phoebe Leboy Professional Development Award provides a female young investigator who resides outside the United States with the resources needed for her to attend the ASBMR Annual Meeting, mentorship from senior women in the field, and complimentary membership in the Society. The award is named in honor of the legacy and contributions of Dr. Phoebe Leboy, a longstanding ASBMR member who dedicated her life to the mentoring of future generations of scientific investigators.
