Takes Office as ASBMR President
 

We would like to welcome Peter Ebeling AO, FRACP, MBBS, MD, as the new President of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR). Dr. Ebeling is Head of the Department of Medicine in the School of Clinical Sciences at Monash Health, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences.  His research interests include musculoskeletal health and diseases; public health aspects of vitamin D; post-transplantation osteoporosis; osteoporosis in men; and biochemical bone turnover markers. In addition to serving on the ASBMR Executive Committee as President-Elect this past year, Dr. Ebeling has served as the first Editor-in-Chief of JBMR® Plus. Dr. Ebeling will serve as President of ASBMR until the conclusion of the ASBMR 2022 Annual Meeting.

The 2022 Clinical Scientist Development Award is
Now Accepting Pre-Proposal Applications
 

The Doris Duke Charitable Foundation is now accepting pre-proposal applications for its 2022 Clinical Scientist Development Award. These grants are for junior physician scientists to facilitate their transition to independent clinical research careers. The pre-proposal application deadline is Friday, November 12, 2021. FNIH Launches Bespoke Gene Therapy Consortium
 

The Bespoke Gene Therapy Consortium (BGTC) is an emerging public-private partnership to foster development of gene therapies intended to treat rare genetic diseases, which affect populations too small for viable commercial development. Building on the successful Accelerating Medicines Partnership model, this program will focus on generating a standard operational playbook for developing such gene therapies. This playbook, which will be established and piloted using four to six test cases, will include streamlined templates, master regulatory files and uniform production processes to create a pathway toward the commercial viability and sustainability of gene therapies for very rare diseases. This approach could have substantial positive impacts on the larger gene therapy field, especially as the field moves into the era of genome editing. Learn more.
