As recent conversations over race-based corrections to clinical algorithms have raised questions about the scientific data doctors rely on to treat their patients across a variety of medical fields, the ASBMR has formed a task force to examine the inclusion of race and/or ethnicity in the diagnosis and subsequent management of individual bone fracture risk in patients. Sherri-Ann M. Burnett-Bowie, M.D., MPH, Harvard Medical School and Jane A. Cauley, Ph.D., University of Pittsburgh will serve as task force co-chairs. The task force will present an update of its work at the ASBMR Annual Meeting in October 2021. Read the full press release here.

Don’t miss out on next week’s session of the ASBMR Member Spotlight Series on Wednesday, June 30 at 1:00 PM EDT. Tune in as Noriyoshi Kurihara, DDS, Ph.D., Research Professor at Indiana University, presents on the contribution of osteoclast-IGF1 and osteocyte on Paget lesions formation in Paget's bone disease, and Jon Paul Elizondo, Ph.D., Texas A&M University, College Station, presents on jump training and sclerostin antibody treatment as preventive countermeasures to microgravity-induced bone loss. Following each presentation, there is an opportunity for Q&A and discussion with the audience. This monthly series brought to you by the ASBMR Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee aims to highlight the research of ASBMR members in a collaborative setting, and aims in particular to shine a light on the research being done by ASBMR members belonging to groups underrepresented in biomedical research (i.e., Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, American Indians or Alaska Natives, Native Hawaiians and other Pacific Islanders). ALL members at all career levels are invited to participate in these sessions. Register to attend the Member Spotlight Series here! To sign up to present, or nominate a colleague to present, visit the ASBMR website - spots are limited!
