    The ASBMR Annual Meeting is held to facilitate the open, non-commercial dissemination of scientific knowledge in the bone and related fields.  Material presented at the ASBMR Annual Meeting is subject to copyright or other re-use restrictions.  Information about these restrictions, ASBMR policies regarding re-use of such material, and procedures for obtaining permission are detailed below.  

    Abstracts
    Abstracts submitted to the ASBMR Annual Meeting are copyrighted by the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research (JBMR®). Reproduction, distribution, or transmission of the abstracts in whole or in part, by electronic, mechanical or other means, or other intended use, is prohibited without the express written permission of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research.  Information about how to obtain permission to re-use ASBMR Annual Meeting abstracts is provided below in the section entitled "Re-Use of ASBMR Annual Meeting Abstracts." 

    Other Material
    Information presented at the ASBMR Annual Meeting other than abstracts, including but not limited to posters, on-screen presentations (e.g. PowerPoint), and hand-outs are the intellectual property of individual presenters or organizations other than the ASBMR.  Such material may not be re-used without the written consent of the relevant individual or organization and, in some cases, the ASBMR. Details are provided below in the section entitled "Re-Use of Other ASBMR Meeting Materials."

    Re-Use of ASBMR Annual Meeting Abstracts 

    Embargo
    The Abstracts Online, Program Planner, mobile app, and a printable PDF of the Abstracts book are made available to Annual Meeting attendees and to members of the ASBMR in advance but are embargoed until the time of their presentation at the Annual Meeting. ASBMR does not grant permission for reproduction or reuse of any ASBMR Annual Meeting abstract until after that abstract has been presented at the meeting.

    Permission for Re-Use of Abstracts: Authors
    Abstracts submitted to the ASBMR Annual Meeting are copyrighted by the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research and published in the JBMR®. The ASBMR grants each of the authors of the submitted abstract the following royalty-free rights, subject only to acknowledgement of the ASBMR's copyright:

    1. Reproduce and distribute to a colleague a copy of the published abstract, in whole or in part, for the colleague's personal or professional use.
    2. Reuse any of the figures, tables and the abstract in a book or book chapter edited or written by any of the authors.
    3. Reuse figures, tables and the abstract in a journal article written by any of the authors.
    4. Reproduce and distribute the abstract for student use in courses taught by any of the authors at academic/research institutions.
    5. Reproduce and distribute the abstract in whole or part for presentation by any of the authors at scientific or professional conferences.

    Authors do not need to contact the ASBMR for permission to re-use their own materials as specified above.

    Any reproduction of the abstract in whole, or in part, must be accompanied by an acknowledgement of the ASBMR's copyright in the following form:

    Permission for Re-Use of Abstracts: Individuals and News Media
    Permission requests for individual or news media reproduction or reuse of JBMR® material or for reproduction or reuse of JBMR® material in a professional work (e.g., a journal or professional reference book) should be addressed to the publisher of JBMR®, Oxford University Press (OUP).

    OUP partners with the Copyright Clearance Center's RightsLink service to fulfil requests from around the world to reuse journal content. RightsLink is a fast, easy-to-use online resource for obtaining permissions at the point of content within minutes. Once you locate the article on Oxford Academic that you wish to reuse, select the Permissions link on the article page to be taken through to RightsLink. Follow the steps to request the intended permission.

    Your request will be processed immediately in most cases but for a small number of requests, approval within OUP may be needed. Please allow up to 15 working days for your request to be processed.

    Specific permissions questions not addressed above may be directed to OUP's Journals Permissions Department: Journals.Permissions@oup.com. Please allow up to 15 working days for queries to be addressed. 

    Permission for Re-Use of Abstracts: Corporate Purposes
    Permission for reproduction or reuse of JBMR® material, including abstracts, for corporate purposes (e.g., storage on a corporate intranet, corporate sponsored distribution to physicians) is subject to approval by the ASBMR. Inquiries may be directed to OUP's Journals Permissions Department: Journals.Permissions@oup.com. Please allow up to 15 working days for queries to be addressed.  

    Should ASBMR grant permission for abstract reproduction, the following must occur: A disclaimer must be prominently displayed/printed (often this appears on the inside front cover), indicating that the choice of abstracts to reproduce full text was not made by the ASBMR.

    Example: Selection of abstracts was made by {company name} and does not necessarily include all abstracts presented on this subject at the 2011 Annual Meeting of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research {San Diego, California, USA 09/16/2010 - 09/20/2011}. The compilation does not constitute an endorsement by ASBMR of the product, assay or information contained herein. No responsibility is assumed and responsibility is hereby disclaimed by the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research for any injury and/or damage to persons or property as a matter of product liability, negligence or otherwise, or from any use or operation of methods, products, instructions or ideas presented in the abstracts. Independent verification of diagnosis and drug dosages should be made. Discussions, views and recommendations as to medical procedures, choice of drugs and drug dosages are the responsibilities of the authors.

    Translation of Abstracts
    Translation of JBMR® material, including abstracts, into languages other than English is subject to the approval of the ASBMR. Translations must carry the following disclaimer in English and in the language of the translation: The American Society for Bone and Mineral Research takes no responsibility for the accuracy of the translation from the published English original and is not liable for any errors which may occur. No responsibility is assumed, and responsibility is hereby disclaimed, by the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research for any injury and/or damage to persons or property as a matter of product liability, negligence or otherwise, or from any use or operation of methods, products, instructions or ideas presented in the Journal. Independent verification of diagnosis and drug dosages should be made. Discussions, views, and recommendations as to medical procedures, choice of drugs and drug dosages are the responsibility of the authors

    Re-Use of Other ASBMR Annual Meeting Material 

    Re-Use for Commercial purposes
    Organizations may not re-use material presented at the Annual Meeting for commercial purposes without the written consent of the presenter or other appropriate party (e.g., the copyright holder) and the ASBMR.  Commercial purposes include but are not limited to symposia, educational programs, and other forms of presentation, whether developed or offered by for-profit or not-for-profit entities, and that involve funding from for-profit firms or a registration fee that is other than nominal.  Questions regarding this policy or requests for re-use of Annual Meeting materials may be directed to the ASBMR Business Office at asbmr@asbmr.org or +1 (202) 367-1161.
