The Women in Bone and Mineral Research Committee is pleased to announce the 2018 recipient of the ASBMR Phoebe Leboy Award, Georgia Antoniou, M.D. Dr. Antoniou is an Orthopedic Surgical Resident at the Agia Sofia General Children’s Hospital in Athens, Greece, where she aspires to become a pediatric orthopedic surgeon. The Phoebe Leboy Professional Development Award provides a female young investigator who resides outside the United States with the resources needed for her to attend the ASBMR Annual Meeting, mentorship from senior women in the field, and complimentary membership in the Society. This week, NIH Director Francis A. Collins, M.D., Ph.D., issued a statement about the pervasive problem of sexual harassment in science and reaffirmed the NIH’s commitment to address it. NIH is working to bolster policies and practices to foster a culture of respect wherever NIH research activities are conducted, and ensure sexual harassment is not tolerated or ignored. To increase transparency on this issue, NIH launched a new, central website on our anti-sexual harassment activities that comprehensively outlines NIH policies, practices, and initiatives as both an employer and a funding agency to address sexual harassment wherever NIH-funded research activities take place.
